The 2016 Ontario Volunteer Service Award

My blog here is mostly for my poetry and information on my other projects in my writing career. I usually don't like to brag or try to feel important, but this is something I really need to say. I know this doesn't have much to do with poetry but it's something that I really want to share.

Tonight was an exciting night for me. Tonight I received a very special award from the province of Ontario. I was extremely honoured and proud to be part of the '2016 Ontario Volunteer Service Award' ceremony that took place at The Sony Center for the Preforming Arts here in Toronto.

As a recipient of this award, I got the chance to meet, The Honourable, Micheal Chan, the Ontario minister of citizenship; and Cristina Martins, the MPP of Davenport.
I also had my mom there; and of course the person who nominated me for this award, my friend who is a teacher at Carleton Village Public School, and my former teacher.

Mr.Grewal nominated me for the award for all the volunteer work I've been doing since I graduated in 2008, but more recently for all the work and time I put into the "Carleton Village 125th Anniversary" (CV125) in 2014 (including my poem: "Memories of a Childhood Era Past" which is featured in their special commemorative book).

I will always help CV in any way I can, whenever I can. It's my old elementary school of 10 years, and I don't mind giving some time back, wheather I get an award for it or not. CV was always good to me, I was always treated equally and with the same respect as all others students.

It's good to know that all your efforts and hard work is appreciated and does not go unnoticed. I consider this award as a great achievement.

So, let me end by saying this: Thank you very much to my home province, the great province of Ontario. Thank you to Mr.G for nominating me on behalf of Carleton Village; thank you to the honourable Micheal Chan, the Ontario Minister of Citizenship; the Davenport MPP Cristina Martins;  our Premier, Kathleen Wynne; and of course, all of my supporters.

Congratulations to all my fellow award recipients this evening, keep doing what you do, your selfless dedication and hard work is an inspiration and helps make our province and home the great place that it is!
